- After receiving the award, the candidate must be able to stay in his or her home country for at least two years.

- The applicant must have completed an Undergraduate program leading to a 2:1 honours degree, or upper second class in the UK.
- The applicant received an unconditional letter of acceptance for one of the three University programs for which they had applied.
- The applicant must have either two years of work experience or 2800 hours of work experience.
- Unless they are inhabitants of a British overseas jurisdiction and are applying from Hong Kong, applicants who are of British nationality or who hold dual British citizenship are not allowed to apply.
- Candidates who have refugee status in a nation other than Chevening are ineligible. Only those in Chevening member nations who are applying for refugee status are Eligible.
- The applicants who are staff members of an Association member of Commonwealth Universities, current or former employees of her Majesty's Government, or relatives of current or former employees are not eligible to apply.

- The applicant has to apply online through the online application system (OAS).
- The applicants are recommended to apply through Google Chrome while using a laptop or a PC rather than a mobile or tablet.
